Best chili I have tasted. Most restaurants have real greasy canned chili, but you can tell its homemade. I was not impressed with the fresh cut fries. Way too greasy and limp.

I went in for my first and last visit at Not Just Dogs this past week. I will preface my review by saying that I did not order hot dogs, which is sort of the carnal sin in the restaurant review world in my opinion, like going to a pizza joint and ordering something other than pizza and leaving a poor review. However, the food and experience combined were enough to make me never come back to try the dogs either, and if they are now calling themselves "Not Just Dogs," it seems they should have some decent choices that are not hot dogs.
Pros:
- tons of hot dog choices
- convenient location next to Cherrydale Cinema
- prices are good
Cons:
- the food (nothing we ate was better than cafeteria food and the microwave was constantly running)
- the service (painfully slow and barely apologetic - see below)
The Whole Story:
We stopped in on a whim to give this place a try since we were in the area and had an hour to kill. We arrived at 4:15 on a weekday, so the place was pretty dead, as you would expect at that hour (1 other customer in the restaurant). We ordered a cheeseburger and fries plate and a grilled chicken salad. We waited, we waited, we waited some more. 25 minutes later, I heard them getting started with our order (open kitchen) and someone came out and said they couldn't make a grilled chicken salad because all of the chicken had gone bad. umm... yuck. ok, so I asked if I could just get a different meat on the salad and they agreed to put a burger on there. We waited, we waited, I heard someone say something about needing to make some fries, we waited some more...
At 4:55, I walked up and calmly asked if it was going to be much longer, because I was running out of time and wasn't even going to have time to eat at this point. They said it was almost ready and that they could make it to go. I hesitantly agreed. We waited some more. Finally, the food came out - well, some of it. I checked the boxes and there were no fries and no salad dressing and no beans. They said the beans were still in the microwave. YUP. The burger was also microwaved to melt the cheese. We waited some more. They half-heartedly apologized for the wait saying they were shorthanded (3 people working at the time) and had an 80 hot dog order to fill. But with only 2 customers in the restaurant, I just would have expected them to take a break from boiling hot dogs and to fill the order of the customer in the restaurant in less than an hour's time. The only saving grace was that they didn't end up charging for the meal, but even that was more of a "Here... just take it!" than a "I'm am so, so sorry for the wait and want to make this right" kind of attitude.
We finally had everything and took the food on the road, since it was now after 5:00 and I had somewhere to be. After all that wait, sadly, the food itself was just not good. The salad (see pic) was iceberg torn in huge chunks with a tiny bit of cheese and some tomato. The burger was cafeteria quality with microwaved cheese on it and a bun that came right out of a store package and wasn't even warmed or toasted in any way. The "fresh cut fries" were soggy, bendable, and very greasy.
With all of the great restaurants there are in Greenville, this is one that I definitely will not be visiting again. -

Still love coming here. It gives me warm fuzzies when the owner comes out from the kitchen to announce," There's my FAVORITE teacher--who I never had!" He was a staple at my classroom door but never on my roll. He bought this business "just to have something to do" and you can tell he loves it. No one is a stranger; everyone is welcome; and Sonny has more tales than a coonskin cap factory!
Good dogs, delicious slaw; wonderful hand cut fries and so much more.
We make it a plan to eat here either before or after a movie at Cherrydale Cinema. It makes for a fun and satisfying outing. -

We didn't eat. We tried to. We arrived at 7:25, with a posted closing time of 8pm. We were greeted by a family walking out, hearing them say "well, where to we want to go eat?" Upon entering the facility I noticed all of the chairs were folded and on top of the tables. We were greeted with "Grill is off, fryer is off, to go orders only, only hot dogs" - no apology, no explanation. They didn't want our business, so we left.

While watching a movie next door I felt the insatiable hankering for a hotdog. So, when I left, I popped in and took one to go. I haven't been here in a few years and not much has changed, except maybe some new décor and a wider selection of items. Same great hotdogs!
